This website was originally created in February of 1998 for Canvena -- Western Canadian White-tailed Deer Corporation. The site became very popular and received many visitors. The purpose of canvena.com was to promote and provide information about white-tailed deer farming in North America.
In January 1999, Canvena became VenCana Corp. due to a trademark dispute with the New Zealand Game Commission. However, before the company could become fully operational, the founder and president, Marvin Ference died in a tragic accident on March 25, 1999.
Russell Sawchuk, his partner who had developed and operates this website, decided to keep it going. He wanted to continue the work Marvin Ference had started, and because there was an obvious need for comprehensive websites to support current and prospective deer and elk farmers.
As a result, Deerfarmer.com arose from ashes of Canvena. We intend to continue to expand and improve this website to provide the deer, elk and reindeer farming industry with the support, information and exposure it needs.
